The solution

In response to the problem of media influencing opinions on women, I have three solutions. The first is to realize that the problem doesn't affect everyone. There are many people who have different opinions on women, and the documentary presented the extremes, rather than reality.  While this is a problem, we must know to see it when it is actually present, not just when we are told it is there. This brings me to my next solution, to be able to questions everything you hear or learn.  While there is a limit, we must realize that we can and should try to question information that we are given or at least learn more about the issue.  We shouldn't just take the facts that we are given, but learn to question it and process the information rather than just follow it.  We must be able to accept and reject information after we have actually had time to learn about it.  We shouldn't listen to what a small percentage of people say, simply because they are in charge of ...

Media and Women

This week in class, we viewed a documentary on the effect of media on women. It showed how not only does it change how men think of women, but also how women think of themselves.  I agreed with what the documentary said, in that media has a strong influence on our opinions.  I think that media is very influential, as we are presented opinions as fact so we believe them.  We are shown how something should be and presented a biased comment that we take to be true. We take in all of this, and end up having our minds twisted to fit the opinions we are presented.  We end up thinking in the way we see media, and depending on what we see, it can be good or extremely horrible. This can not only make us think worse of someone else, but of ourselves as well. In the case of this documentary, we are shown how media makes us think of women.  In media, we are presented with the main idea of how men are better than women.  Most people within media or in charge of the pr...

cool ads

in the movie we watched in class, we saw how advertising agencies attempted to make their ads cool and appealing to kids and teens.  while this practice may seem good, the way it is carried out is extremely bad.  the way teens see something is extremely over exaggerated and teens are used as props to draw in others. we shouldn't be having tons of fake people acting as if something is actually good, as it just makes it so much more difficult to understand the truth and see it for what it is.  we have to realize that when a company tries to promote their product, that it isn't always genuine. the way these companies make ads cool is extremely terrible.  as i went over earlier, there are "looks" and "midriffs" who are all bad influences.  not only this, but those who become a part of these advertising techniques feel extremely pressured to act in a certain way as they get money for what they're doing. people act differently simply to fit in, and we can...

Mooks and Midriffs

recently, in class we watched a movie in which we were presented with people also caused "mooks" and "midriffs".  we were shown that they are supposed to be the typical person, looks for males, and midriffs for females, who are presented in a more relatable, if exaggerated, way that is appealing to us in that it makes us want to watch the show. not only are these characters seen on tv, but they can also be figures in life such as a singer or someone famous.  some of these characters act this way on purpose in order to attract attention to the character or it can be s=imply who that person is. in my opinion, we shouldn't be acting this way in order to promote tv.  these actions simply influence and reinforce people who actually act this way.  we shouldn't be promoting behavior like this towards a child who can be easily influenced.  not only this, but this acting can be seen as offensive.  due to the portrayal of the "typical person" being someone...

The danger of too much social media

in my post earlier, I outlined what I believe was too much social media, so here I will discuss how that is harmful.  To begin with, too much social media is when we rely on it to the point that we can't do a task without it. The dangers in this are quite simple.  By using media too much, we won't be able to do anything ourselves.  If we couldn't use the internet of social networks, our society would essentially collapse.  We wouldn't be able to do anything as no one would know how to do it without using the internet.  Everyone relies on media to the point where no one knows how a task can be done without its use.  We as a society need to make sure that this never occurs, as a heavy reliance on the internet will cause for us to forget how to accomplish the task in the first place and lead to our collapse. Another danger is the distraction that media causes.  Too much social media leads to us being distracted all the time, and once againg causes for u...

How much is too much

when i think of social media, one of the biggest question is how much time should we be spending on it.  There is obviously a limit, but the question is what is the limit?  Also have we already reached that point? In my opinion, too much social media can be defined as when it becomes distracting to the point that someone is always on it or thinking about it.  There are many people who are at this point and I think that this should be considered too much. But where exactly is the cutoff point?  Due to the advancement of modern technology, we use social media for many things in our lives such as research and even ordering a gift or food.  Too much social media can also be considered as when we rely on it for most of our daily tasks. We rely heavily on social media for many things.  We use it for work, transportation, school, and communication.  But we also like to think as some of this use of it as being unavoidable and required, rather than just opti...

The Modern Age of Technology

technology has come extremely far in the past few decades.  adults now had nowhere near the level of technology we have as kids.  and even the kids born in the past few years have come into a much more digitally advanced age than we did it used to be that the only way of communicating was through  mail and then slowly we have advanced to a time where you can talk to ten different people on a phone screen.  we used to have no such thing as the internet, where we could look up the answer to a question in a matter of seconds. but the question is how the rapid advancement affects us?  is it a good or a bad thing? this change in technology also causes for many people to see the world differently.  those who are born into this digital age will think less of it, as it has always been here for them.  they will also tend to use it more for not-needed uses.  those who were born before these advances began will think of it as being much more amazing than ...

The Distractions of Social Media

have you ever noticed just how much we use our phones and computers for?  sure, a lot of the time it is work or school related, but a large percentage of the time it is for social media.  what i mean by social media is an online activity where you can contact people without seeing them in person.  this can be anything from texting to an online game. in some cases, the use of this online communication can be good.  it can help us to be a part of someone's life when we don't actually see them around.  but, a lot of the time it can be extremely bad.  for example, take a look at distracted driving.  about 25% of car crashes are due to texting and driving. the overuse of social media is extremely bad for us, and it is actually killing us.  we need to realize that asking our life isn't worth replying to a text.  social media distracts us from what is important and doesn't allow for us to focus on what we are trying to do.  rather than trying...
