The Distractions of Social Media

have you ever noticed just how much we use our phones and computers for?  sure, a lot of the time it is work or school related, but a large percentage of the time it is for social media.  what i mean by social media is an online activity where you can contact people without seeing them in person.  this can be anything from texting to an online game.
in some cases, the use of this online communication can be good.  it can help us to be a part of someone's life when we don't actually see them around.  but, a lot of the time it can be extremely bad.  for example, take a look at distracted driving.  about 25% of car crashes are due to texting and driving.
the overuse of social media is extremely bad for us, and it is actually killing us.  we need to realize that asking our life isn't worth replying to a text.  social media distracts us from what is important and doesn't allow for us to focus on what we are trying to do.  rather than trying to finish a homework assignment we are using our phones to check instagram or even just thinking about the texts that we are missing.
we end up becoming addicted to our phones and simply wanting to check it as soon as possible so we can't talk to someone and distract ourselves.  social media itself can be good, but it has come to the point where we rely on it way too much and use it all the time.
this leads to us becoming even more distracted and not being able to focus on anything besides texting someone else.  i think that we should continue to use social media, as its principles are good, but try to use it less and less.  we can't allow ourselves to be so addicted to it that it distracts us from life and we end up ignoring not only people but situations in which we can be hurt.
we need to stop putting so much time into our phones and focus more on real life, and whats important rather than checking our phone every minute to see if someone replied to our text.  social media ends up distracting us from whats really important in life, and keeping us from accomplishing anything thats important.

Reflection

looking back at all of my media blogs, I think that as a whole they really helped to learn more about media and ads and how they affect us.  Sure, we wrote mainly about what we learned in class, but writing about the topics in my own way really helped to bring the information in and truly understand it.  I think that the project really helps to better understand what we learn in class.  While we can study the concepts and maybe talk about them with someone else, actually writing about it and applying it to something that appeals to us is what allows for the information to be truly driven home. Reflecting on my writing, I think that i could have done a better job.  I think that maybe tying to apply the concepts to more real life situations would really help, along with following a better plan while wrtiting. I think that if I had followed more of an outline for my blogs rather than writing more randonkly would have really helped to improve both the fluency of the wr...
