How much is too much

when i think of social media, one of the biggest question is how much time should we be spending on it.  There is obviously a limit, but the question is what is the limit?  Also have we already reached that point?
In my opinion, too much social media can be defined as when it becomes distracting to the point that someone is always on it or thinking about it.  There are many people who are at this point and I think that this should be considered too much.
But where exactly is the cutoff point?  Due to the advancement of modern technology, we use social media for many things in our lives such as research and even ordering a gift or food.  Too much social media can also be considered as when we rely on it for most of our daily tasks.
We rely heavily on social media for many things.  We use it for work, transportation, school, and communication.  But we also like to think as some of this use of it as being unavoidable and required, rather than just optional such as texting.
However, in my opinion, this can still be considered too much social media.  The reason that I say this is because of not only media being used for these circumstances but the fact that we rely on it and see it as the only possibility.  We think of these uses as being needed and there being no other way to fix the problem.  Because of this, I would classify these situations as being too much social media, depending of how many of these situations we find ourselves caught it.
If it comes to the point where we rely on it everyday and can't see a way to do what it is we think media is needed for without using it, that's when it becomes too much.

  1. You present an interesting idea about how much is too much media. The point you make about if you got rid of all the other uses, and just kept it down to what we considered essential, you would still be left with too much because social media is not the only option. I find it interesting that we have reached the point where media has become so much a part of our life that we begin to consider it a necessity to accomplish certain tasks that can be completed in other ways with out media. That does show us how much media has become a part of our lives. However, it has also made our lives easier, and if we are benefiting from this, is it too much?

Reflection

looking back at all of my media blogs, I think that as a whole they really helped to learn more about media and ads and how they affect us.  Sure, we wrote mainly about what we learned in class, but writing about the topics in my own way really helped to bring the information in and truly understand it.  I think that the project really helps to better understand what we learn in class.  While we can study the concepts and maybe talk about them with someone else, actually writing about it and applying it to something that appeals to us is what allows for the information to be truly driven home. Reflecting on my writing, I think that i could have done a better job.  I think that maybe tying to apply the concepts to more real life situations would really help, along with following a better plan while wrtiting. I think that if I had followed more of an outline for my blogs rather than writing more randonkly would have really helped to improve both the fluency of the wr...

Mooks and Midriffs

recently, in class we watched a movie in which we were presented with people also caused "mooks" and "midriffs".  we were shown that they are supposed to be the typical person, looks for males, and midriffs for females, who are presented in a more relatable, if exaggerated, way that is appealing to us in that it makes us want to watch the show. not only are these characters seen on tv, but they can also be figures in life such as a singer or someone famous.  some of these characters act this way on purpose in order to attract attention to the character or it can be s=imply who that person is. in my opinion, we shouldn't be acting this way in order to promote tv.  these actions simply influence and reinforce people who actually act this way.  we shouldn't be promoting behavior like this towards a child who can be easily influenced.  not only this, but this acting can be seen as offensive.  due to the portrayal of the "typical person" being someone...
Social Media Social media has such a big impact on our lives.  We see it everyday, and use it as one of our main forms of communication.  It helps to connect us to people around the world by allowing us to talk, text, and see photos of them.  In my life, I mainly use social media to communicate with friends, using the internet for school, and online games.  I have mixed feelings when it comes to social media, especially regarding its effect on society as a whole. When it comes to just me, I think that social media is mostly good.  I am able to use it for not only connecting with other people, but also for help with school.  Media is a great way of being able to connect with people that I don't see on a day-to-day basis.   It helps to talk with people and see what they are doing, if you don't see them everyday at school.  It also helps to communicate with family that might not live in the same city as you do.  Not only this, but you can als...
